Democratic Party Nominates Jang Saeyong for Gumi Mayor, Lee Yunhee for Mungyeong Mayor, and Kim Sanghun for Yeongyang County Head
Nominations Also Made for Two Metropolitan and One Basic Council Seats
The Public Office Candidate Recommendation Management Committee of the Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee (Chairman Oh Ilyoung) has made single recommendations for the positions of mayor of Mungyeong and head of Yeongyang County, which had reopened applications, as well as for the mayor of Gumi (a primary election region), two metropolitan council seats, and one basic council seat.
On April 26, the committee held its 15th meeting and decided to recommend Lee Yunhee (former Democratic Party Sangju-Mungyeong Regional Committee Chair) as the candidate for Mungyeong mayor and Kim Sanghun (current Social Economy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee) as the candidate for Yeongyang County head. For Gumi mayor—a region previously classified for a party primary—they decided to recommend Jang Saeyong (former mayor of Gumi) as the sole candidate, as no opposing candidate registered for the primary.
Additionally, for the newly registered metropolitan council races in Gumi City’s 2nd constituency and 3rd constituency, the committee recommended Kwon Seongcheol (former school council chair at Ok-gye Dongbu Elementary School) and Lee Junmo (former Democratic Party Gumi-eul Regional Committee Secretary-General), respectively. For the basic council race in Andong City’s Ba constituency, Kim Hoseok (former chair of the Andong City Council) was recommended as the sole candidate.
As of now, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee has recommended candidates for 14 out of 22 local government heads in the province, including Pohang mayor Park Heejeong, Andong mayor Lee Samgeol, Yeongcheon mayor Lee Junghoon, Sangju mayor Jeong Jaehyun, Gyeongsan mayor Kim Kihyun, Cheongsong county head Lim Gijin, Yeongdeok county head Kang Busong, Chilgok county head Kim Si-hwan, Yecheon county head Yoon Dongchun, Bonghwa county head Lee Sang-sik, and Ulleung county head Jeong Seonghwan, whose nominations have already been approved. Once candidates are determined for Yeongju (currently in primary) and Uljin County (under review), all 16 local government head nominations are expected to be finalized.
