Exploring Field-Oriented Cooperation Strategies Between Universities and Institutions
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a meeting with relevant stakeholders to seek practical cooperation measures for expanding the recruitment of international students and supporting their employment and settlement.
The meeting, held on April 24, was attended by more than 20 officials, including Jeong Sun-gil, Director of the Department of Autonomous Administration, the Head of Lifelong Education, representatives from the Changwon Municipal Policy Research Institute, local university officials, the Gyeongsangnam-do RISE Center, and the Gyeongnam Visa Support Center at the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Attendees discussed the policy direction for international students and ways to establish a cooperative system.
During the meeting, participants shared updates on the ongoing policy research project titled "Changwon City International Student Recruitment and Employment·Settlement Support Measures" and exchanged opinions on the current status of international students, strategies for expanding recruitment, and measures to support employment linkage and settlement.
In particular, concrete field challenges such as employment issues for international students, the mismatch between majors and job opportunities, and visa-related problems were shared. The need for clear role-sharing and close collaboration among universities, local governments, and relevant organizations to address these issues was emphasized.
Jeong Sun-gil, Director of the Department of Autonomous Administration, stated, "International students are an important human resource for the region, and above all, close cooperation among relevant organizations is essential to ensure their stable settlement in the area." He added, "Based on the various opinions presented at this meeting, we will develop effective policies going forward."
