Strengthening Cooperation Ahead of the 10th Anniversary of the Friendship Agreement
Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, dispatched three private chefs from the Gumi Noodle Festival to the "Yonggang Rice Noodle Festival," which was held in its international friendship city, Taoyuan City, from April 25 to 26. The delegation held an on-site tasting event featuring "K-Kimchi Beef Ramen," an adaptation of the "Gumi Hanwoo Para Ramen" menu from the Gumi Noodle Festival, showcasing the appeal of K-Ramen to the local Taiwanese audience.
In addition, the city promoted Gumi by introducing its plans to hold the Gumi Noodle Festival in 2026 as well as its local tourism resources. Through these efforts, Gumi strengthened its image as a global city, raised the profile of its festival, and laid the groundwork for attracting overseas tourists.
Recently, exchanges between the two cities have become increasingly active through festivals. From 2023 to 2025, Taoyuan City participated in the Gumi Noodle Festival for three consecutive years, presenting traditional Taiwanese noodle dishes. This visit was also an extension of such mutual exchanges. In particular, the active involvement of private participants in the representative food festivals of both cities is seen as a way to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of the exchange.
The "Yonggang Rice Noodle Festival" is a multicultural food festival based on the food cultures of Chinese Yunnan, Myanmar, Thai immigrants, and local military and police communities. Centered around rice noodles, the event features a variety of experiential activities, making it a signature event for the region. Last year, approximately 150,000 people visited the festival, demonstrating its high level of public interest.
Since signing a friendship agreement on September 7, 2016, Gumi City and Taoyuan City have maintained continuous exchanges in various fields, including industry, culture, and tourism. In particular, with the 10th anniversary of the friendship agreement scheduled for September this year, the two cities also held working-level discussions on the direction of future cooperation and celebratory events. Expanding cooperation to various fields such as cultural and tourism exchanges, industrial collaboration, and youth and private sector exchanges was a key focus of the discussions.
