"Emergency Notification in Case of Vehicle Accident"...LG Electronics Unveils 'Hybrid Emergency-Call System'
Transmitting Accident Information in Emergencies
Responding to Mandatory Measures in Europe, China, and Beyond
Officially Certified in Korea, the US, and Europe
LG Electronics has introduced the "Hybrid emergency-Call" system, which enables vehicles to quickly notify rescue centers of emergencies in the event of an accident.
On April 26, LG Electronics announced that it had demonstrated the Hybrid emergency-Call system at the 37th general meeting of the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), a global vehicle communications consortium held in Gothenburg, Sweden, on April 23. This initiative is a proactive response to the next-generation emergency call system regulations, which will require all new cars released in Europe from next year to be equipped with such systems.
The emergency call system is an in-vehicle emergency communication system that transmits the accident location, time of occurrence, vehicle information, and more to the nearest emergency rescue center in the event of a vehicle accident.

From next year, it will become mandatory to install the 'NG e-Call,' a 4G·5G-based system capable of transmitting large amounts of real-time information, such as live video from the scene, even more quickly. This regulation is expected to expand to Saudi Arabia and China in 2027 and to the United Arab Emirates in 2029.
LG Electronics' Hybrid emergency-Call system is installed in the vehicle's telematics control unit (TCU) and supports networks ranging from 2G to 5G. It leverages the strengths of 4G·5G networks, which allow for rapid transmission of large amounts of data, and 2G·3G networks, which offer broader coverage. Having completed reliability verification, LG Electronics has been supplying the Hybrid emergency-Call system to major global automakers since this year.
Last year, at the 5GAA general meeting held in Paris, France, LG Electronics also unveiled, for the first time in the world, a solution that enables two-way communication beyond voice messaging using non-terrestrial networks (NTN) via satellite in areas where terrestrial networks are not readily available.
Through the VS Certification Lab under its Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Business Division, LG Electronics operates a testing and evaluation system based on international standards (ISO/IEC 17025) to rigorously manage the quality of vehicle components. The VS Certification Lab acquired official testing laboratory status from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) in 2024 and has also obtained major communication certifications in Europe and North America, such as GCF and PTCRB. As a result, LG Electronics now has the capability to independently test and verify in-vehicle communication components according to global certification standards.
Based on this foundation, LG Electronics can handle the entire process of developing, testing, and certifying vehicle emergency call systems in a one-stop manner without involving external organizations, enabling rapid response to the diverse needs of global automakers.
