Notably, eleven surviving veterans—nine from overseas and two from Korea—along with nineteen bereaved family members, attended in person, adding special significance to the event. Attendees paid tribute to the noble sacrifices of the fallen heroes who gave their lives in the Battle of Gapyeong 75 years ago to defend peace and honored their spirits.
The ceremony included the entrance of the UN color guard, a reading of the Battle of Gapyeong overview, and a wreath-laying. As the highlight of the event, the Air Force's special flight team, Black Eagles, performed a memorial flight over the monument, offering tribute to the fallen heroes of the Gapyeong battlefield.
The unwavering affection of Commonwealth veterans for Gapyeong continued. Since 1976, veterans have pooled their pensions to provide scholarships, and this year, the Australian contingent awarded scholarships to 28 students from Gapyeong Middle and High Schools, while the New Zealand and Canadian contingents awarded scholarships to 40 students from Gapyeongbuk Middle School, totaling 68 recipients.
