Bicycle and Pedestrian Path Connecting Seunggi Stream and Songdo in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon Opens
Completion Ceremony for "Kkumieumgil" Held on April 24
Connecting Old Downtown and Songdo Residential Areas
The "Kkumieumgil," a dedicated bicycle and pedestrian path connecting Seunggi Stream in the old downtown area of Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, with Songdo International City, has officially opened.
On April 24, Yeonsu-gu held a completion ceremony for the "Kkumieumgil" at the observation deck near the Namdong water retention basin.
Previously, residents had to endure inconvenience and risk by dragging their bicycles across the Aam-daero crosswalk to travel from Seunggi Stream to Songdo International City. However, the opening of Kkumieumgil has eliminated these challenges. In particular, the route now separates the complex vehicle flow and pedestrian/bicycle traffic at the Oeamdo intersection area, thereby improving both safety and transit efficiency.
Kkumieumgil consists of a 1-kilometer bicycle path and a dedicated bicycle and pedestrian bridge that is 4.9 meters wide and 380 meters long. The name "Kkumieumgil" combines "Kkum" (meaning "dream" and symbolizing the future of Yeonsu-gu) and "ieum" (meaning "connection," referring to the linking of residents’ daily activities such as walking, relaxing, and commuting).
The district has equipped the path with symbolic sculptures, an observation deck, bridge rest areas, landscape lighting, and safety CCTVs, among other convenience and safety facilities. This is intended to enhance the mobility and convenience for residents while also designing the space to be a place where people want to linger.
The district expects Kkumieumgil to become a leading waterfront attraction and landmark that combines both functionality and scenic value. Moreover, as the routes for bicycles and pedestrians expand, the district anticipates that nearby parks, waterfront spaces, and commercial areas will become interconnected, injecting new vitality into the local economy.
