SK Innovation and SK Telecom agreed to jointly explore projects for building an AI data center and related infrastructure with the Nghe An provincial government. SK Innovation will review power supply solutions in connection with the Quynh Lap LNG Power Project, while SK Telecom will pursue plans for the development and operation of an AI data center.
Nghe An Province is a key hub in north-central Vietnam, currently nurturing the manufacturing, energy, and high-tech industries. SK Innovation was recently selected, along with PV Power and NASU, as an operator for the Quynh Lap LNG Power Project. This large-scale energy infrastructure project includes a 1,500 MW combined cycle gas power plant and an LNG terminal. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion targeted for 2030.
The two companies will also cooperate with NIC in areas such as building AI data centers, developing energy infrastructure, and establishing policy and institutional frameworks. SK Telecom will be responsible for technology cooperation and supporting investment attraction, while SK Innovation will provide energy solutions. NIC will support the project through government consultations, regulatory improvements, and policy support.
This collaboration marks the first overseas expansion of SK's "AI Full-Stack Provider" strategy. SK plans to promote the spread of the AI industry in Vietnam by leveraging its value chain, which encompasses semiconductors, data centers, power and energy, and AI services. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Jeong-gwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Ngo Van Tuan, Minister of Finance of Vietnam; SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won; and others.
