Runner-up Finishes in Golf and Baduk
Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province achieved outstanding results by ranking first in the most categories among counties at the 65th Gyeongsangnam-do Residents Sports Festival.
This year’s festival was held in the areas of Haman County and Changnyeong County from April 17 to April 20, and drew attention as it was the first time the event was co-hosted by two county-level local governments.
Namhae County dispatched a delegation of 590 people to the festival, including 365 athletes and 225 staff members, competing in 22 sports categories and delivering well-balanced performances across all events. Notably, the county ranked first overall in seven categories—kendo, park golf, table tennis, judo, boxing, football, and bowling—setting the record for the highest number of first-place finishes among counties.

The county’s ability to achieve balanced results across various disciplines, rather than focusing on just a few, was particularly noteworthy.
Such achievements are seen as the result of ongoing efforts to promote sports for all. The Namhae County Sports Association has consistently run community sports programs open to all residents, working to expand the base of sports participation and laying the foundation for the growth of both recreational and elite sports.
Furthermore, the athletes’ steady training, systematic preparation by coaches, and close cooperation between the sports association and individual sports organizations were all identified as major contributors to improved athletic performance. During the festival, the delegation’s strong concentration and solid teamwork were also cited as key factors leading to the excellent results.

Namhae County Governor Jang Chungnam stated, “It is especially meaningful that our team achieved the highest number of first-place finishes despite the new environment of a joint hosting by counties for the first time. We will continue to provide ongoing support so that both recreational and elite sports can grow together.”
