Seunghwa Lee, Preliminary Sancheong Governor Candidate, Files for Provisional Injunction to Suspend Primary Results... Raises Allegations of Irregularities
Provisional Injunction Filed at Seoul Southern District Court
Allegations Include Violations of Election, Information Network, and Personal Information Protection Acts
Potential Impact on Candidate Eligibility if Granted... Political Circles Watching Closely
Seunghwa Lee, a preliminary candidate for the Sancheong County Governor, filed for a provisional injunction to suspend the validity of the candidate selection process at the Seoul Southern District Court on April 21, and has begun the process of filing criminal complaints against those involved, alleging illegal activities occurred during the party’s primary.
According to Lee’s camp, the alleged violations in the primary include: ▲ violations of the Public Official Election Act due to obstruction of free internal primaries and dissemination of false information; ▲ violations of the Information and Communications Network Act due to slander against candidates and the spread of false information via social media and other channels; ▲ violations of the Personal Information Protection Act due to the leakage and unauthorized use of the electoral college list; and ▲ suspicion of obstruction of work due to proxy voting and manipulation of public opinion.
However, the opposing party’s stance on these allegations has not been confirmed, and the facts are expected to be clarified through future investigations and the court’s judgment.
Lee’s camp stated, “We plan to first submit specific evidence to the investigative authorities, considering concerns about destruction of evidence,” adding, “We hope that a thorough investigation will shed full light on the suspicions involved.”
In political circles, there are predictions that the outcome of this provisional injunction request could affect the dynamics of the Sancheong County Governor election.
If the court grants the provisional injunction, the effectiveness of the primary results could be temporarily suspended, which may lead to changes in the party’s candidate registration procedures. Conversely, if the request is rejected, the existing primary results will remain in effect.
Furthermore, since legal proceedings will continue until a final ruling on the main lawsuit is reached, the party’s decision on nominations and its response strategy are also expected to remain fluid.
