Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that the Gwangyang Zipwire, “Seomjingang Starlight Sky,” which crosses the Seomjingang River, is attracting the attention of tourists as the spring outdoor activity season arrives.
“Seomjingang Starlight Sky” is a zipwire facility spanning approximately 898 meters, connecting Mangdeok Mountain and Baeraldo Riverside Park. The facility consists of a total of five lines: four lines for descending and one for retrieval. It features a triangular route that starts from Mangdeok Port and connects Baeraldo Riverside Park and the island garden.

View original imageThe monorail, which transports visitors to the starting platform, operates over a distance of about 280 meters. From the launch pad on Mangdeok Mountain at an elevation of 197 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Seomjingang River, Mangdeok Port, and Yi Sun-sin Bridge.
Recently, the Gwangyang episode of the television program “Wherever Gandaeho” featured an on-site experience at the zipwire, which has sparked ongoing interest online and across social networking services (SNS). The broadcast showcased scenes of the zipwire experience as well as the scenery around the Seomjingang River, capturing viewers’ attention.
Admission fees are 25,000 won for adults (aged 19 and over), 20,000 won for those under 19 and for military personnel, and 10,000 won for children aged 13 and under. Groups of 20 or more receive a 10% discount, while Gwangyang residents and honorary citizens receive a 50% discount. Additional discounts of 30% are offered for individuals with disabilities, national merit recipients, and basic livelihood security beneficiaries. The monorail costs 1,000 won one-way and 2,000 won for a round trip.
Riders must be at least 140 cm tall and weigh between 45 kg and 105 kg. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The facility is closed every Tuesday. Operation may be restricted depending on weather conditions and control system status, so visitors are advised to check in advance.
A Gwangyang City official stated, “Seomjingang Starlight Sky is an experiential tourism attraction where visitors can enjoy the scenic views of the Seomjingang River. It continues to attract families as well as visitors seeking unique experiences.”
