At that moment, Mello, only a few steps away from the finish line, reduced his speed and lifted both arms in celebration. However, Joshua Jackson, who was following closely behind, seized the opportunity and accelerated for a final push. In the end, Jackson overtook Mello and was the first to cross the finish line. Jackson finished with a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes, and 12 seconds, which was just 2 seconds faster than Mello.
This dramatic scene was captured in a video near the finish line by the official timekeeping company, Mettle Event. The video, which vividly shows the dramatic moment, quickly spread through social networking services (SNS), garnering more than 10 million views and attracting considerable attention.
The footage clearly shows Mello celebrating before the finish line, while Jackson makes a last-minute sprint to overtake him. Mello realized the situation too late, and by then, there was not enough time to reclaim victory.
