Kim Don-gon, Cheongyang County Governor, Emphasizes Policy Continuity in Bid for Third Term
"A Decisive Period in the Next 2 to 3 Years Will Shape Cheongyang's Future"
Kim Don-gon, Governor of Cheongyang County, has officially announced his candidacy for the 9th popularly elected Cheongyang County Governor, embarking in earnest on his bid for a third consecutive term.
Candidate Kim emphasized that the next two to three years represent a golden time that will determine the future of Cheongyang for the next century, presenting policy continuity and completion as his core keywords.
He further stressed, "This is not the time for a new beginning, but the time to complete the changes that have already been set in motion."
On April 22, at his campaign office, Kim held a press conference to announce his candidacy, stating, "Cheongyang has reached a turning point where tangible results are emerging, going beyond the simple stage of change. Depending on how we manage this time, the future of Cheongyang could unfold in a completely different direction," once again underscoring the importance of policy continuity.
In particular, Kim pledged to establish basic income for rural and fishing communities not as a short-term measure, but as a '10-year policy' that will shape Cheongyang’s future. He stated, "By integrating agriculture, welfare, and healthcare, I will complete a Cheongyang-style living economy model."
He made it clear that his bid for a third term is not for personal honor, but a choice to complete the development of the region.
Regarding the achievements of the 8th term, Kim stated, "Cheongyang has moved beyond an administration centered on individual projects and has achieved a structural transformation that organically connects agriculture, welfare, healthcare, tourism, and residential environments."
Kim defined the present as the 'completion stage' and reiterated the importance of policy continuity.
He pointed out, "Governance is not a process of discontinuity, but of accumulation, and most of the projects currently underway have a mid- to long-term structure."
He added, "If our direction wavers at this point, there is a high possibility that the achievements we have built up will be delayed or weakened. If the momentum is lost just before results become visible, the effectiveness of policies will inevitably be interrupted."
He further stated, "This is not simply a matter of choice, but a time when we must ensure both sustainability and stability."
