On April 22, POSCO Future M announced that it held the "Future M Nature Guard Day" volunteer event at Naengcheon Stream in Nam-gu, Pohang.

About 40 POSCO Future M employees and their family members participated in the event. They mixed loess and seeds to make seed balls, which were then thrown into the Naengcheon Stream area currently under restoration following typhoon damage in 2022. Once the seeds successfully germinate and grow, various plants suited to the stream environment—including the nationally protected Aster koraiensis, as well as Vitex rotundifolia, Chrysanthemum indicum, Agastache rugosa, and Lythrum salicaria—are expected to take root in the area.

Seed balls help reduce seed loss during the initial sowing stage, increase germination rates, and serve as a natural fertilizer to aid soil recovery. They can also be planted in areas that are difficult for people to access, making them widely used in ecological restoration and urban greening projects.

Lee Ji-hyun, Deputy General Manager of the Basic Materials Planning Group, who participated in the volunteer activity with her child, said, "It was enjoyable to make and throw seed balls by hand with my child, and it was rewarding to contribute to the restoration of the urban stream ecosystem. I hope that the various plants we planted today will grow well, so that my child can live in a healthier natural environment."

POSCO Future M plans to continue these activities once each in the first and second halves of the year, focusing on regions where its major business sites are located, such as Pohang, Gwangyang, and Sejong.
