Sacheon City to Provide “High Oil Price Relief Fund” of Up to 600,000 Won
Applications Open from April 27
Targeting Bottom 70% of Income Earners
Unused Funds Expire at the End of August
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province will provide a “High Oil Price Relief Fund” of up to 600,000 won to support residents struggling with surging oil prices.
On April 22, the city announced that applications for the relief fund will begin on April 27, and payments to eligible recipients will be made sequentially.
This relief fund targets the bottom 70% of income earners residing in Korea as of March 30, with the amount varying according to income level. General recipients will receive 150,000 won, those in the second-lowest income bracket and single-parent families will receive 500,000 won, and basic livelihood security recipients can receive up to 600,000 won.
The application process will be conducted in two rounds. The first round runs from April 27 to May 8, and the second round from May 18 to July 3. Recipients must use the relief funds by August 31 to promote local consumption; any remaining balance will be automatically canceled after that date.
Applications are available both online and offline. For credit and debit cards, applications can be made through the card company’s website, app, call center, or bank branches. Mobile local gift certificates can be applied for via a dedicated app, and prepaid cards can be obtained by visiting the local town and township administrative welfare centers.
To reduce congestion at the start of the application period, a “day-of-the-week system” based on the last digit of the applicant’s birth year will be implemented starting April 27. Applications will be accepted on Mondays (1, 6), Tuesdays (2, 7), Wednesdays (3, 8), Thursdays (4, 9), and Fridays (5, 0), according to the last digit.
The city has formed a dedicated task force team and completed training for town and township officials to ensure smooth disbursement of the funds. In particular, a call center and an on-site application service will also be operated for elderly residents and those with mobility difficulties.
