KOSPI Hits Intraday Record High, Then Trades Slightly Lower
Intraday High Reaches 6,404.03
The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) surpassed the 6,400 mark on April 22, setting a new intraday record high.
As of 9:39 a.m. on April 22, the KOSPI was trading at 6,391.69, up 3.22 points (0.05%) from the previous session. After opening slightly lower at 6,387.57, the index quickly climbed to 6,401.12 by 9:01 a.m. It then dropped to as low as 6,349.94, before rebounding to 6,404.03 at 9:33 a.m.
Individual investors recorded a net purchase of 1,102.143 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions were net sellers, offloading 373.744 billion won and 722.014 billion won, respectively.
Most industry sectors were on a downward trend. Notable declines included construction (-2.16%), electricity and gas (-1.54%), transportation and storage (-1.45%), and general services (-1.27%). In contrast, metals (2.3%) and chemicals (1.07%) showed gains.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, performances were mixed. Samsung Electro-Mechanics (5.3%) and Samsung SDI (5.1%) posted gains, while KB Financial Group (-2.1%) and others declined. Samsung Electronics (0.3%) and SK hynix (-0.5%) traded flat.

Among the top market capitalization stocks on the KOSDAQ, most were declining. Notable losers included Samchundang Pharm (-13.8%), Wonik IPS (-4.5%), and HLB (-4%). On the other hand, Jusung Engineering (5.3%) and ISC (1.6%) posted gains.
