Taekwondo and K-pop Performances at the Heart of Gangnam Station... "Fun&Fun Gangnam"
Every Thursday from April 23 to October
Gangnam District in Seoul (District Mayor Cho Sungmyung) will operate a regular cultural performance program titled "Fun&Fun Gangnam" at the Gangnam Square Plaza in front of Exit 12 of Gangnam Station from April 23 until October this year.
This urban cultural event is designed to allow citizens and tourists to enjoy street performances during their evening commute or after work. The program takes place every Thursday evening after 6 p.m., lasting for about 40 minutes. This year, there will be a total of 19 performances: 11 Taekwondo shows, 6 street performances, and 2 special shows. Some schedules may be adjusted depending on weather conditions such as rain.
The event leverages the geographical advantage of Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, which is located nearby in Yeoksam-dong. Kukkiwon and the Gangnam Taekwondo Association will jointly present demonstrations and board-breaking shows, combining Taekwondo with K-pop performances. The significance of this event lies in promoting Korea's representative Taekwondo content in the Gangnam Station area, a popular destination for international tourists.
The street art performances will also be diverse, featuring various genres such as K-pop, popera, and bands. In addition to the regular shows, there will be special performances, including stages with famous singers and citizen-participatory programs like the K-pop dance challenge.
This month's performances will kick off with a concert by the Kim Youngseok Band at 6:30 p.m. on April 23. On April 25 at 7 p.m., there will be a special show featuring singer Woody, and on April 30 at 6 p.m., Kukkiwon will present a Taekwondo demonstration.
