Chonnam National University and ACC Expand 'K-Democracy' as Global Cultural Content
Collaboration Combining Democratic Narrative Content and Cultural-Artistic Infrastructure
Chonnam National University and the Asia Culture Center (ACC) announced on April 22 that they will expand K-democracy as cultural content to be shared globally. By combining the historical narrative of Chonnam National University—where the May 18 Democratic Uprising began—with the ACC's global cultural platform, the content development and global dissemination of K-democracy will be fully launched.

The signing ceremony was attended by University President Lee Geunbae, President Kim Myungkyu, and key officials from both institutions.
This agreement was established to build a collaborative framework between the two organizations, link their resources and content, and contribute to the global spread of K-cultural content as well as the cultivation of local talent in arts and culture.
Through the agreement, the two institutions plan to expand cooperation in various fields, including: joint programs for the global dissemination of K-cultural content; overseas collaborative exhibitions and international exchange programs; talent development programs for Chonnam National University students; and mutual promotion and support for each institution's initiatives.
In particular, this collaboration is significant in that it combines content based on Chonnam National University's democratic narrative with the cultural and artistic infrastructure of the ACC, providing an opportunity to reinterpret Gwangju's democratic values as cultural content and share them with the world.
Chonnam National University is the birthplace of the May 18 Democratic Uprising. On May 18, 1980, students gathered in front of the university gate and clashed for the first time with martial law troops controlling access to the campus; afterwards, the students moved to the former South Jeolla Provincial Office and continued their protests.
The Asia Culture Center is a national cultural facility established on and around the site of the former South Jeolla Provincial Office, the epicenter of the uprising. It plays a key role in reinterpreting and disseminating the values of democracy and human rights accumulated in Gwangju as cultural content to the world.
