Hanwha General Insurance announced on April 22 that the number of claims for the childbirth support benefit under the "Hanwha Signature Women's Health Insurance" has surpassed 1,000 cases. This milestone was reached approximately six months after the benefit was launched.
The childbirth support benefit pays out a certain amount upon childbirth. It was first introduced in the industry in November 2024 as part of "Hanwha Signature Women's Health Insurance 3.0." After a one-year waiting period, claims have been accepted since November of last year.
When it was launched, this rider became the first in the long-term insurance sector of the non-life insurance industry to obtain a nine-month exclusive use right. The benefit is structured to pay support funds for the first, second, and third childbirths, respectively, after the coverage begins.
Notably, this is the first benefit in Korea to pay insurance claims based solely on the occurrence of childbirth. With a focus on tangible support, it aims to substantially reduce the financial burden at the time of childbirth, considering increased expenses for postpartum care and childcare preparation.
This benefit has become a key coverage option among women in their 20s and 30s, with a particularly high selection rate. As of last month, 46.4% of female policyholders in their 20s and 30s who purchased "Hanwha Signature Women's Health Insurance 4.0" had also added the childbirth support rider.
Since the benefit was launched, the number of insurance payouts has steadily increased, with cumulative cases exceeding 800, and customer satisfaction has also risen.
A representative from Hanwha General Insurance stated, "As we have taken into account the diverse needs of female customers in their 20s and 30s, demand for childbirth-related coverage continues to grow," adding, "We plan to continue strengthening our tailored coverage and services for customers."
The Hanwha Signature Women's Health Insurance offers comprehensive coverage across the entire childbirth process, from infertility to pregnancy and postpartum care. The pregnancy support benefit, which pays KRW 500,000 once upon pregnancy to help ease the burden of testing and management, was the first in the long-term insurance sector of the non-life insurance industry to be granted a one-year exclusive use right.
