Covestro to Participate in CHINAPLAS 2026... Unveiling Materials for Future Industries
Highlighting Three Core Areas: Intelligent Industry, Smart Life, and Healthcare
Covestro, a global leader in advanced materials, will participate in CHINAPLAS 2026, the world’s largest plastics and rubber industry exhibition, unveiling material solutions targeting next-generation industries.
Covestro announced that at this exhibition, which will be held from April 21 to 24 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai, China, it will showcase material innovation cases focused on three core areas: intelligent industry, smart life, and healthcare.
The exhibition will present real-world applications centered around three areas: advanced materials for implementing intelligent industry; high-performance, low-carbon materials supporting smart life; and healthcare materials that enhance connectivity and reliability.
Lily Wang, head of Covestro’s Engineering Plastics (EP) business, stated, “Technological innovation centered on AI is rapidly breaking down boundaries between industries. Through high-performance materials and integrated solutions, we are establishing new industry standards together with our customers in next-generation mobility, electrical and electronics, and healthcare sectors.”
In the intelligent industry sector, Covestro will unveil material solutions aimed at emerging sectors such as low-altitude aviation, robotics, and smart energy. The company will exhibit the flying car ‘AirCab,’ jointly developed with its Chinese partner GOVY, and showcase material applications for eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles). Solutions include lightweight polycarbonate windshields, roof-integrated sensor modules, polyurethane encapsulation foam for battery protection, and coating solutions for aircraft bodies, achieving both flight safety and extended range.
Material solutions for humanoid robots will also be introduced. The polycarbonate-based material enhances impact resistance for structural components and improves thermal management and parts integration efficiency in electronic control housings. For battery enclosures, flame retardancy and uniform temperature properties are applied to support stable long-term operation. High infrared transmittance in sensor housings enables precise environmental sensing.
In the smart energy sector, materials for energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and power grid equipment will be exhibited. Covestro’s polycarbonate-based enclosure solutions maintain stable performance even under external environmental changes and are applied to a variety of energy systems.
In the smart life segment, materials for data centers and consumer electronics will be introduced. The bio-circular polycarbonate ‘Makrolon RE’ offers approximately 80% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional materials while delivering stable performance even in high-density computing environments.
Additionally, solutions using glass fiber- and carbon fiber-reinforced engineering plastics will be showcased, enabling simultaneous weight reduction, high rigidity, and design flexibility. Materials for communication devices supporting the expansion of satellite broadband will also be introduced, supporting stable connections with high signal transmittance and impact resistance.
In the healthcare sector, medical materials for wearable devices, remote diagnostics, and drug delivery systems will be presented. Point-of-care (POC) solutions using ‘Makrolon Dx’ polycarbonate support precise diagnostics with high optical transparency and low fluorescence properties.
Also on display will be medical wearable materials using all-polycarbonate injection-molded pen-type injectors and skin-friendly TPU films. These materials are designed to improve comfort and elasticity while ensuring durability, making them suitable for long-term use.
