No Records of Health Insurance or Housing Lottery Usage
Confirmation Hearing Report Expected to Be Adopted on the 17th Afternoon
Shin Hyun-song, candidate for Governor of the Bank of Korea, has completed the submission of additional documents requested by the National Assembly's Finance and Economy Committee regarding his eldest daughter's nationality issue. Unless there is significant disagreement between the ruling and opposition parties, the committee is expected to adopt the confirmation hearing report for Shin at a plenary session scheduled for 3 p.m. on the 17th.
Shin Hyun-song, candidate for Governor of the Bank of Korea, is attending a confirmation hearing held by the National Assembly's Finance and Economy Committee on the 15th and responding to questions from members of the committee.
View original imageAccording to political sources on April 16, Shin submitted all the additional documents requested at the confirmation hearing the previous day, including his eldest daughter's entry and exit records, his own health insurance usage details for the past 20 years, and information on domestic real estate ownership and subscription applications. The documents confirmed that his eldest daughter had no records of using health insurance, no subscription records, and no records of receiving livelihood support payments.
The only record of the candidate’s eldest daughter using her Korean nationality without filing a nationality loss report was "one instance of exiting the country using a Korean passport." According to the candidate's side, no additional issues were found during her stay or movement processes.
As a result, it is assessed that many of the suspicions regarding the candidate’s child, which had delayed the adoption of the hearing report the previous day, have now been largely resolved. The Finance and Economy Committee will convene a plenary session at 3 p.m. on the 17th to discuss whether to adopt Shin's confirmation hearing report. If there are no major disagreements between the parties, the report is expected to be adopted.
Previously, Assemblyman Chun Haram of the Reform Innovation Party and others had raised concerns over Shin's report in December 2023 that his eldest daughter, who holds British nationality, had registered as a domestic resident. They argued that although the daughter lost her Korean nationality in 1999, she was registered as a domestic resident without a nationality loss report being filed.

In response, Shin explained, "Around December 2023, while living with my eldest daughter for about two weeks, she was listed as having an unknown address, so I registered her as a resident to resolve and organize this matter." He indicated that he was not aware of the required procedures such as the nationality loss report. However, he stated that he had no intention of gaining any benefits from this and that the matter would soon be resolved.
