Gwangju City Imposes Internal Disciplinary Measures on Officials Found Guilty of Misconduct
Civil servants at Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall who fraudulently claimed holiday work allowances and siphoned off government funds have been referred to the prosecution in large numbers.
The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 16th that it has referred seven city officials, including Mr. A, to the prosecution on charges of falsifying official electronic records and fraud for unlawfully receiving holiday work allowances.
Mr. A and others are accused of fabricating records of holiday work last year, entering them into the system, and unjustly obtaining a combined total of about 800,000 won in allowances.
The police launched the investigation based on media reports that raised suspicions about the case. The Gwangju Seobu Police Station initially handled the case, but due to the large number of individuals involved, part of the case was transferred to the Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency.
With the seven individuals transferred by the metropolitan police agency this time and the 19 previously referred by the Seobu Police Station, a total of 26 people have now been sent to the prosecution, marking the conclusion of the investigation.
A police official stated, "We conducted a rigorous investigation into the allegations raised by the media and referred those whose charges were substantiated to the prosecution."
