Homeplus Becomes First Major Retailer to Sell "Fresh Eggs from Thailand"
Over 46,000 Trays Secured for Sale
From April 19 to Early Next Month
On April 16, Homeplus announced that it will begin selling "fresh eggs from Thailand" on April 19, becoming the first major retailer in Korea to do so, with the goal of contributing to the stabilization of egg prices.
This marks the first time Thai eggs will be sold directly to consumers through domestic retail channels.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has secured approximately 46,000 trays of "fresh eggs from Thailand," which were imported as an alternative due to the outbreak of avian influenza in the United States. These eggs will be available at all Homeplus stores nationwide and select Homeplus Express branches. Shipments will arrive in six installments from April 19 through early next month.

Given the high interest in relatively affordable imported eggs due to inflation, purchases are limited to two trays per person to ensure as many customers as possible can buy them.
The "fresh eggs from Thailand" are brown eggs, which are familiar to Korean consumers, and are classified as extra-large by domestic standards. The product has been quality-verified in advance by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation. After importation, the eggs undergo strict quarantine, thorough hygiene inspections, washing, and sterilization before being sold to consumers. Throughout the entire distribution process, refrigeration is maintained to ensure freshness.
For about five years, Homeplus has been leading efforts to stabilize prices by being the exclusive importer of eggs among major retailers. It has sold out all imported eggs, including American eggs in 2021, 2024, and 2026, as well as Spanish eggs in 2023.
