The Hanbok Globalization Foundation will hold an academic symposium on the theme of "Scholar Culture and Hanbok Life" at 1 p.m. on May 2 at the Seonbi Sangsang Convention Hall in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.

This is the first academic event organized by the UNESCO Registration Promotion Team for Hanbok Life, which is working to have Hanbok Life inscribed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with local governments. The event is hosted by the City of Yeongju and co-organized by the Yeongju Culture and Tourism Foundation and the Registration Promotion Team.

Haksu Kim, professor at the Academy of Korean Studies, will give a presentation on "Scholar Culture," while Jin-ki Cheon, chairperson of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee, will present on "Content Creation Strategies for Scholar Attire Culture." The subsequent panel discussion will be chaired by Mikyung Song, former professor at Seoul Women’s University. Participants in the discussion will include Jooyoung Lee, professor at Tongmyong University; Jungguk Cho, general director of the 2026 East Asia Culture City; and Sadaham Kim, a Hanbok influencer. They will discuss contemporary ways to carry on the Seonbi spirit and attire culture.

Hanbok Life was designated as a National Intangible Heritage in July 2022. The Registration Promotion Team is conducting a signature campaign and other activities with the aim of achieving UNESCO inscription by 2030.
