View original imageThe National Heritage Administration and the National Heritage Promotion Institute will launch the "National Heritage Visit Campaign" starting this month. This initiative aims to turn the growing interest in national heritage, spurred by the global popularity of K-content, into actual visits. Seventy-six representative national heritage sites across Korea have been grouped into ten themed routes, and a visitor passport tour program will be operated.
This year's theme is "The Entire Nation is a Storybook." Until September, every Wednesday and Saturday, a webtoon titled "Brilliant Heritage: Anthology" based on the National Heritage Visit Courses will be serialized on Naver Webtoon. There will also be a participatory event where readers can share their own stories related to national heritage in the comment section. In the second half of the year, a record-sharing program will be introduced, allowing visitors to freely share their visit experiences online through text, photos, and videos.
The visit courses for April and May include "The Royal Road," which connects Changdeokgung Palace, Jongmyo Shrine, Namhansanseong Fortress, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Suwon Hwaseong Fortress; "The Sound Road," featuring the National Intangible Heritage Center, Gwanghallu Garden in Namwon, Pilbong Nongak Training Center, and the National Nammdo Gugak Center; and "The Mountain Temple Road," which links UNESCO World Heritage temples such as Magoksa Temple in Gongju, Beopjusa Temple in Boeun, Seonamsa Temple in Suncheon, Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, and Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon.
From June to August, the courses include "The Gwandong Elegance Road," connecting Seongyojang House, Ojukheon House, Gyeongpodae Pavilion in Gangneung, and Woljeongsa Temple in Pyeongchang; "The Road of Legends and Nature," featuring Jeju's natural heritage sites such as Yongmeori Coast, Geomunoreum Lava Tube System, Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, and Manjanggul Cave; and "The Seowon Academy Road," which links nine Seowon academies in Gyeongju, Yeongju, Andong, and Hamyang. In July, coinciding with the World Heritage Committee meeting in Busan, a special course featuring thirty World Heritage sites in Busan, Ulsan, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeongsang provinces will also be held.
From September to November, the campaign will open "The Path of a Thousand-Year Spirit," connecting Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, Daereungwon Tomb Complex in Gyeongju, Hahoe Folk Village, and Dosan Seowon in Andong; "The Baekje Ancient Capital Road," featuring Magoksa Temple in Gongju, Busosanseong Fortress in Buyeo, and Mireuksaji Temple Site in Iksan; "The Prehistoric Geology Road," which includes Hwajeokyeon in Pocheon, Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site in Yeoncheon, and Goseokjeong Pavilion in Cheorwon; and "The Gaya Civilization Road," composed of Gaya heritage sites such as Daeseong-dong Tombs in Gimhae, Malisan Tombs in Haman, and Jisan-dong Tombs in Goryeong. "The Mountain Temple Road" will also be available again during this period.
Various benefits will be provided for each course. "The Royal Road" offers accommodation discount coupons for the Gyeonggi region and a "Palace Pass Lucky Pouch" from the Royal Palace Culture Festival. "The Sound Road" includes accommodation and transportation discounts, free admission to Gwanghallu Garden in Namwon, and local gift certificates. "The Mountain Temple Road" offers a 50% discount on templestay programs.
"The Gwandong Elegance Road" provides free admission to Ojukheon House and Seongyojang House in Gangneung, as well as local gift certificates. "The Road of Legends and Nature" offers free admission to Geomunoreum Lava Tube System and Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak in Jeju and local gift certificates. "The Baekje Ancient Capital Road" offers free admission to Busosanseong Fortress and the Royal Tombs in Buyeo and local gift certificates. "The Prehistoric Geology Road" provides free admission to Hantangang Geopark Center and Art Valley in Pocheon and local gift certificates. A representative from the National Heritage Administration explained, "All courses will provide T-money GO transportation discount coupons, and the total support budget has increased to 500 million won, more than double that of last year."
The World Heritage Committee special course will be available from May to November. Visitors who complete five special courses and get verification at the National Heritage Visit Campaign booth at the Korea Pavilion in BEXCO, Busan, during the World Heritage Committee period (July 19–29) will receive souvenirs.
