This campaign departed from the traditional guidance-focused approach, with safety personnel directly boarding the escalators to naturally encourage passengers to follow safety rules.
The safety personnel boarded the left-side escalator holding "Stop-bags" and placards displaying phrases such as "Please stand and do not walk," advising passengers to refrain from walking. Banners were also installed in the concourse and at the escalator entrances to provide repeated guidance throughout the transit path. The personnel managed passenger flow by going up and down the escalators, dispersed crowds at entrances in congested situations, and offered tailored assistance such as directing mobility-impaired passengers to use elevators.
As a result of the campaign, excessive walking and overtaking on the escalators declined, passenger movement remained consistent, and bottlenecks were alleviated. Even during peak passenger inflow, the overall congestion level decreased, confirming a positive effect on safety management.
Based on the results of this campaign, Seoul Metro plans to conduct similar safety campaigns at stations where large-scale festivals and events are held in the future.
