Goheung Aerospace Festival to Host 'Space Festival Popup' at The Hyundai Seoul
Goheung County, South Jeolla Province, announced that it will hold the ‘Goheung Aerospace Festival Popup Store’ at The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul, from April 11 to 18.
The ‘Goheung Aerospace Festival’, the only aerospace festival in Korea, will meet citizens in the heart of Seoul through this popup event. Under the slogan ‘From Earth Civilization to Space Civilization,’ the event is planned as an ‘urban space platform’ that goes beyond a simple exhibition, combining hands-on interactive content with immersive spatial design.
In particular, as the first-ever aerospace festival popup to be held inside a department store in Korea, it is drawing attention as a new promotional model for festivals.
This event is centered around the concept of ‘the starting point of a space journey from Seoul to Goheung’, with a core focus on a travel-linked program that leads to actual visits to Goheung. To achieve this, Goheung County collaborated with Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and other leading aerospace organizations in Korea to ensure both expertise and credibility in its content.
The popup space will be divided into three main themed zones: the Earth Civilization Zone, the Space Civilization Zone, and the Astronaut Carnival Zone, with the aim of delivering an overwhelmingly immersive experience.
In the Earth Civilization Zone, visitors can see a scaled-down model of the Nuri launch vehicle and an exhibition on the development of Korea’s launch vehicles. There will also be a high-performance astronomical telescope observation area and a KAIST robot (Spider Rover) experience zone, providing an immersive simulation of the ‘pre-space entry’ stage.
The Space Civilization Zone is designed to replicate the environment of Mars. Using red soil, rocks, and special lighting, this area recreates the atmosphere of the red planet. Models of return vehicles and space exploration rovers will be on display, allowing visitors to experience the environment of future space missions.
The most vibrant space, the Astronaut Carnival Zone, will feature experiences such as trying on spacesuits and alien guerrilla performances. There will also be a reservation desk for tours of the Nuri launch site, enabling on-site bookings for actual Goheung visit programs and realizing a travel-linked tourism model where the popup experience leads to visits to the region.
An official from the county’s tourism policy office said, “This popup at The Hyundai Seoul is more than just a promotional event—it is a new type of festival model where citizens can experience Korea’s space technology firsthand. We plan to expand various connected programs so that the interest generated in Seoul will lead to actual visits to Goheung.”
