Gwangju Public Officials' Assets Disclosed: City Council Member Tops at 8.9 Billion Won, District Mayors in the 2 Billion Won Range

The changes in the assets of 32 public officials in the Gwangju area, including local government heads and metropolitan council members, have been made public. Among city council members, those reporting assets in the 8 billion won range were the most numerous, followed by those in the 5 billion won range, highlighting the significant scale of assets among the top-tier members.
According to the "2026 Regular Public Officials’ Asset Change Report" released by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee under the Ministry of Personnel Management on March 26, the assets of Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung were reported at 1,175,226,000 won. This is an increase of 8,078,000 won compared to last year’s 1,167,148,000 won, which appears to be influenced by an increase in the value of listed shares held by the mayor and his children.
Among high-ranking public officials of Gwangju City and heads of affiliated organizations, Administration Vice Mayor Ko Gwangwan reported 1,670,774,000 won, Culture and Economy Vice Mayor Kim Youngmoon reported 1,175,741,000 won, Autonomous Police Committee Chairperson An Jin reported 837,305,000 won, and Autonomous Police Committee Secretary General Jeon Junho reported 1,718,112,000 won. Sun Seokgi, Commissioner of the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, reported 3,144,429,000 won.
Among the five district mayors, Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, had the highest reported assets, with 2,019,928,000 won. He was followed by Kim Byungnae, Mayor of Nam-gu, with 1,039,078,000 won; Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, with 609,968,000 won; Park Byunggyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, with 513,524,000 won; and Lim Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, with 424,105,000 won.
In the Gwangju City Council, Chairperson Shin Sujeong reported assets of 296,000,000 won, an increase of 40,000,000 won from the previous year.
Among city council members, Assemblyman Shim Changuk reported the largest amount, with 8,972,000,000 won. Assemblyman Shim’s assets decreased by 2,712,000,000 won after selling 28,000,000 won in listed shares and 3,617,000,000 won in unlisted shares.
Next was Assemblywoman Lim Miran, who reported 5,528,000,000 won. Her assets increased by 1,326,000,000 won, largely due to the repayment of 1,694,000,000 won in debts.
Many other members reported assets in the 1 billion won range. Assemblyman Park Heeyul reported 1,373,000,000 won; Assemblywoman Hong Giwol, 1,256,000,000 won; Assemblyman Seo Yongkyu, 1,078,000,000 won; and Assemblyman An Pyunghwan, 1,076,000,000 won.
Other notable disclosures include: Assemblywoman Kim Yongim, 950,000,000 won; Assemblyman Shim Cheolui, 978,000,000 won; Assemblyman Seo Imseok, 833,000,000 won; Assemblyman Myung Jin, 819,000,000 won; Assemblywoman Lee Gwisoon, 584,000,000 won; Assemblyman Jo Seokho, 546,000,000 won; Assemblywoman Chae Eunji, 534,000,000 won; Assemblyman Jeong Muchang, 468,000,000 won; Assemblyman Kang Suhoon, 410,000,000 won; Assemblywoman Choi Jihyun, 361,000,000 won; Assemblywoman Park Pilsun, 268,000,000 won; and Assemblyman Lee Myungno, 161,000,000 won.
On the other hand, Assemblywoman Kim Nayoon reported the smallest assets, with 23,000,000 won, including debts of 152,000,000 won. Assemblywoman Park Mijeong also reported 23,540,000 won and was found to have debts of 698,000,000 won.

Gwangju Metropolitan City Superintendent of Education Lee Jeongseon reported 1,685,000,000 won, an increase of 104,000,000 won from last year. It was found that he and his spouse hold land worth 537,000,000 won in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, and Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, as well as deposits totaling 964,000,000 won.
