City Issues Legislative Notice on Senior Bus Fare Subsidy Ordinance
Bus Fare Support for Yongin Residents Aged 70 and Above
Covers City, Village, and DRT Buses; Citizen Feedback Accepted Until April 15
Yongin Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Sangil) is set to fully implement a bus fare subsidy program to guarantee mobility rights and support an active later life for seniors aged 70 and above.
On March 26, Yongin City announced that it had issued a legislative notice the previous day for an ordinance bill titled "Yongin City Senior Citizens Bus Fare Subsidy Ordinance," which outlines the details of this initiative.
This ordinance bill is one of the main pledges of the 8th civilian administration, designed to reduce the financial burden of seniors who frequently use public transportation and to expand their opportunities for social participation.
The program aims to provide bus fare subsidies to citizens aged 70 and older who are registered residents of Yongin, covering city buses, village buses, and demand-responsive buses. It will reimburse actual bus fare expenditures up to a maximum of 360,000 won per person per year (up to 90,000 won per quarter).
During the legislative notice period, from March 25 to April 15, the city will widely collect citizens' opinions to reflect them in the ordinance bill.
During this period, individuals may submit their opinions—including support or opposition to each item and the reasons—along with their name (or organization name and representative's name for organizations), address, and phone number.
Opinions can be submitted to the city's Public Transportation Division (1199 Jungbu-daero, Cheoin-gu) by mail, phone, fax, or email. Further details can be found in the "Legislative Notices and Announcements" section of "Yongin News" on the city's official website.
Mayor Lee Sangil stated, "This program has been in high demand among citizens, and we plan to prepare thoroughly so that there are no setbacks," adding, "However, even after the legislative notice period, several steps remain, including city council review, securing the budget, linking the transportation card system, and signing business agreements with related agencies for operation. We will do our best to proceed without any disruptions."
