Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center to Launch K-Brunch Concert "Woo·Ah·Han" with First Performance on the 25th
A Journey Connecting Tradition and Modernity: Gayageum Player Hwang Hyunseon Takes the Stage
Held at 11 a.m. on the Last Wednesday of Every Month from March through November
The Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center will kick off the 2026 season of its K-Brunch Concert series, "Woo·Ah·Han (Korean Music Opening Our Morning)," with its first performance on March 25 at 11 a.m. at the Small Yard.
"Woo·Ah·Han" will be held at 11 a.m. on the last Wednesday of every month from March through November.
As a morning Korean traditional music concert that can only be experienced at the Korean Traditional Music Center in the Chungcheong region, "Woo·Ah·Han" is being continuously organized in collaboration with Daejeon Korean Traditional Music Broadcasting to popularize and incorporate Korean traditional music into daily life and to expand its presence in the region.
The concert series has gained popularity as the signature performance of the center by inviting the most active Korean traditional musicians from Korea and abroad, presenting the best contemporary creative music that crosses the boundaries of genres such as classical and jazz.
This upcoming performance will feature gayageum player Hwang Hyunseon. Hwang began playing gayageum in third grade, graduated from Chungnam Arts High School and Korea National University of Arts, was selected as a Kumho Young Artist, and gained attention by winning the silver prize at a university-level Korean traditional music competition.
Hwang has expanded her musical world by participating in the music dramas "Jarana Jara," "Jeongsujeongjeon," "Jeoseunghalmang," as well as contemporary music performance concerts "Macbeth: The Psychology of Sound" and "Hamlet: The Psychology of Sound," covering a broad spectrum from tradition to modernity.
The theme of this performance is "Listening to the Day TikTok;60," which musically depicts the flow of a day, based on a rhythm of 60 beats per minute that matches the human heartbeat.
The program delicately illustrates the changing times of day, beginning with ▲"Dawn_Breath of Dawn," followed by ▲"Morning_Light of Morning" inspired by the Jajinmori and Hwimori rhythms of the Kim Jukpa style gayageum sanjo to express the busyness of modern mornings, ▲"Afternoon_Weight of Sunlight" which captures both the noise of the city and the flow within, ▲"Night_Silence of Night," and ▲"Day_Forest of Time."
In particular, "Afternoon_Weight of Sunlight" will feature the unique timbre of the didgeridoo, a traditional Australian Aboriginal wind instrument, creating a distinctive musical experience. This stage will also feature Jeong Jinwoo, a wind instrument musician from the creative music group Grim and CEO of the world music group Zion, who will participate in sound design and perform daegeum, danso, and didgeridoo.
