Changgyeonggung Palace Welcomes Spring Breeze... Daejojeon Windows Open Wide After Restoration
'Light and Wind' Event Starts on the 24th
Enjoy Palace Interiors Without Reservations
The Changgyeonggung Palace Management Office of the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center will hold the ‘Changgyeonggung Palace Light and Wind Festival’ from March 24 to April 5. During this event, the windows and doors of major palace halls will be opened, allowing visitors to experience the everyday management process of extending the lifespan of wooden structures by bringing natural light and wind inside. Areas such as Nakseonjae, Gwonnaegaksa, and the Heejeongdang precinct, which are usually opened and closed routinely, will be widely accessible to the public.
This year, the windows and doors in the Daejojeon area, which had been closed due to restoration works, will be reopened, drawing attention. This will provide a striking sense of visual openness, as visitors can look straight from the Heejeongdang outer corridor, through the central hall of Daejojeon, all the way to the rear Hwage (a terraced garden adorned with flowers and trees).
Visitors can use the open doors and windows as natural frames to enjoy both the palace interiors and the spring scenery at the same time. From outside the buildings, they can vividly appreciate the indoor atmosphere, which is usually hard to experience.
O Taekkeun, Director of the Changgyeonggung Palace Management Office, said, “We hope this will be an opportunity to share with visitors the ways in which cultural heritage breathes and the significance of its preservation and management.”
