Centered around this management team, Jeollanam-do is continuously monitoring petroleum prices and supply and demand trends. The province has also established an emergency communication network with related organizations, such as Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority, to proactively respond to crisis situations.
Since March 13, Jeollanam-do has been conducting joint special inspections with the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority and local governments in line with the implementation of the maximum price system for gas stations. So far, 89 locations—including gas stations with large price increases—have been visited and inspected, while administrative guidance has also been provided to encourage price reductions.
In addition, the province plans to immediately conduct on-site verifications for suspected cases of hoarding and cornering reported to the “Provincial/City/County Petroleum Special Reporting Center.”
On March 18, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Kang Wiwon held a meeting with representatives from four regional city gas companies.
During the meeting, Deputy Governor Kang emphasized that the prolonged situation in the Middle East and the consequent rise in crude oil and natural gas prices could increase the burden on local households. He called for the active cooperation of companies on the following: ▲ minimizing city gas rate increases ▲ expanding rate reductions for energy-vulnerable groups ▲ strengthening energy conservation awareness campaigns.
He also urged continued efforts to realize regional energy welfare, such as expanding the supply of city gas.
Jeollanam-do is also strengthening mandatory energy-saving measures to manage energy demand. The province continues to promote energy-saving campaigns and is reviewing additional measures, such as the implementation of the five-day rotation system for public institution vehicles.

Yoo Hyunho, Director of the Energy Industry Bureau of Jeollanam-do, stated, “Instability in the Middle East is increasing the potential for rising international oil prices and supply and demand uncertainty. Based on our cooperation system with relevant organizations, we will simultaneously carry out petroleum market inspections and energy-saving measures to stabilize residents’ livelihoods and minimize damage to the local economy.”
