Traditional fermented tea from 'Ido,' located in Cheongha-myeon, Buk-gu, Pohang City, was shipped for export to Mexico for the first time on the 19th.
This export is the result of a contract signed at the export consultation meeting hosted by Pohang City last year, demonstrating that administrative support for expanding overseas markets for local agricultural products is bearing fruit.

The significance is even greater as K-fermented foods, previously centered on kimchi and sauces, have now expanded to fermented tea, making inroads into the Central and South American markets.
The exported products are premium teas made by combining traditional fermentation methods and modern processing technology, using local agricultural ingredients such as balloon flower root, red ginseng, and red sage. They are distinguished as healthy beverages—caffeine-free, additive-free, and sugar-free.
The fermentation process enhances both the deep flavor and aroma, as well as the functional benefits, aiming to appeal to overseas consumers.
Pohang City has implemented a variety of policies to foster the agri-food processing industry and enhance export competitiveness, including hosting export consultation meetings, supporting overseas promotions, and running buyer invitation programs.
The city is also actively supporting local agri-food companies’ global expansion through online marketing and overseas promotional events.
This export is expected to further expand the overseas market potential for processed foods made with local agricultural products, and traditional fermented tea is drawing attention as a new export item for the region’s agri-food sector. 'Ido' has also shown the potential to grow as a new leading brand representing Pohang’s agri-food products.
