Bundang Line Extension Petition to Be Submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
Osan City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Kwonjae) announced on March 19 that it has launched a citywide petition campaign to expedite the extension of the Bundang Line.
According to the city, the Bundang Line extension project is designed to connect the existing Bundang Line urban railway from Giheung Station to Dongtan 2 New Town and Osan. By linking Dongtan 2 New Town and Osan with Giheung in Yongin as a hub, the project is expected to significantly improve transportation convenience not only for residents in southern Yongin but also for citizens of neighboring cities, and is considered a key initiative in the region.
The city cited several reasons for launching the citywide petition campaign: the need to expand the metropolitan railway network to accommodate population growth and increased transportation demand resulting from the development of large-scale residential complexes such as Segyo New Town (Districts 1, 2, and 3); and the necessity to urge a shift from the current lukewarm attitude toward the project, even though it was included in the Fourth National Rail Network Construction Plan (2021).
Mayor Lee Kwonjae reiterated his strong regret over the delay of the project, emphasizing that although it is included in the National Rail Network Construction Plan and the need for the project is growing due to increased transportation demand from large-scale residential complex development, the project continues to experience setbacks.
Specifically, the citywide petition campaign runs both online and offline from March 17 to April 20, with a participation goal of more than 30,000 people. The campaign is open to everyone, including Osan residents and anyone regardless of their place of residence.
