This program is part of the Gwangmyeong Future Education Cooperation District initiative, jointly promoted by Gwangmyeong City and the Gwangmyeong Office of Education, with the goal of nurturing future talent.
The program will be implemented for 217 classes of 4th and 5th graders across 25 elementary schools in the city. The curriculum consists of hands-on environmental education experiences tailored to each grade level and connected to the school curriculum.
Fourth graders will participate in a water-themed class, "Precious Water That Saves Lives," learning about the water cycle and the importance of water conservation. Fifth graders will take part in a resource circulation-themed class, "No (NO) Plastic, Know (KNOW) Jam," which covers issues related to plastics in daily life and the importance of resource circulation.
Professional environmental education instructors who have been selected through a screening process will visit each school to conduct the lessons. The classes are designed as participatory sessions using textbooks, teaching materials, quizzes, and games, allowing students to understand environmental issues easily and enjoyably.
Notably, both the water environment education and resource circulation education programs have been designated as excellent environmental education programs by the Climate, Energy, and Environment Division, recognizing the quality and necessity of the education.
Mayor Park Seungwon stated, "I hope that experiential environmental education linked to the school curriculum will help students appreciate the importance of the environment and lead to practical action in their daily lives," and added, "We will continue to expand environmental education efforts together with schools and the local community."
