Korea Student Aid Foundation to Select 30 High School Students for Overseas Study Scholarships... $70,000 Per Year for Four Years of University Support
500,000 to 700,000 Won Monthly Grant Provided While in High School
The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byungil) announced on March 18, 2026, that it plans to select a total of 30 new recipients for the 2026 Academic Year Excellent High School Student Overseas Study Scholarship (Dream Scholarship).
The application period runs from March 18 to April 15. Eligible applicants are second- and third-year domestic high school students from households receiving basic living subsidies or classified as low-income, who have excellent academic records and wish to enroll in overseas universities. Detailed eligibility requirements and application procedures can be found on the foundation's official website.
New scholarship recipients for 2026 will be selected through a document screening process and interviews. Applications for the Excellent High School Student Overseas Study Scholarship (Dream Scholarship) must be submitted directly by students via the Korea Student Aid Foundation's website.
The Excellent High School Student Overseas Study Scholarship (Dream Scholarship) program, established in 2012 to foster global talent, has enabled a total of 216 students to study abroad in 12 countries worldwide up to last year. Of these, 90 students have demonstrated their abilities by securing employment or starting businesses at domestic and global companies after graduating from overseas universities.
The Korea Student Aid Foundation will provide academic encouragement grants of 500,000 won per month to second-year high school students and 700,000 won per month to third-year students. In addition, various support programs to help with admission to overseas universities, including one-on-one expert counseling, will be offered.
To ensure that students can focus on their studies despite the increasingly challenging environment for studying abroad—such as rising overseas university tuition and local living costs—the annual scholarship limit for students studying overseas will be increased from $60,000 to $70,000 starting this year. Moreover, a new incentive type will be established for students admitted to the world’s top universities, further strengthening support for outstanding low-income students seeking global opportunities.
A representative of the Korea Student Aid Foundation stated, “If a high school student is selected as an overseas study scholarship recipient, they will receive a monthly grant of 500,000 to 700,000 won while in high school, and once abroad, they will be supported with $70,000 per year for four years of university studies.”
