GS E&C Enhances Underground Parking Lot Fire Response with AI-Based Fire Detection CCTV Performance Evaluation
On March 18, GS E&C announced that it is advancing and preparing to commercialize its artificial intelligence (AI)-based fire detection closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology, designed to respond effectively to fires in underground apartment parking lots.
GS E&C conducted a demonstration test to introduce AI-based fire detection CCTV technology in underground parking lots of apartment complexes, aiming to address the increasing number of fires associated with the growing adoption of electric vehicles. Noting that minimizing false alarms is the greatest challenge in actual application, GS E&C built an environment identical to a real apartment underground parking lot at the KCL (Korea Conformity Laboratories) Real Fire Test Research Center in Samcheok, Gangwon Province. There, the company verified the technology’s accuracy and secured foundational data.
Through this demonstration, GS E&C enhanced its AI algorithm to reduce malfunctions caused by everyday factors—such as vehicle headlights, lighting reflections, and exhaust gases—while ensuring that actual fire incidents are detected without omission.
The AI-based fire detection CCTV technology, validated through this fire performance evaluation, will be considered for phased implementation, taking into account the unique characteristics of Xi apartment complexes and the conditions of each project site.
In addition, during the demonstration process, GS E&C completed a patent application for its “AI Algorithm Performance Evaluation Method and Process,” which verifies the reliability of its AI-based fire detection CCTV technology. This effort is part of building a robust infrastructure for fire response technology.
Previously, in July of last year, GS E&C signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Meteo Simulation, a company specializing in fire simulation. The two companies are currently conducting research to advance fire prediction systems based on digital twin technology—a technique that replicates physical objects in virtual space to analyze and predict operating conditions using data.

A GS E&C representative stated, “This demonstration serves as a technological foundation for proactively eliminating risk factors in actual residential environments. Going forward, we will continue to introduce verified advanced technologies tailored to on-site conditions, so that Xi residents can enjoy safer and more secure living spaces.”
