Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, made her first official visit to Korea today, formalizing expanded, all-encompassing cooperation with various domestic companies, including Samsung Electronics and Naver. Notably, CEO Su hinted at a "surprise announcement" regarding collaboration with Samsung Electronics. Her visit suggests a move to further strengthen cooperation across Korea's semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystems.
On the morning of March 18, CEO Su met with The Asia Business Daily as she exited the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Regarding plans for collaboration with Samsung Electronics, she stated, "I will be meeting not only with Samsung but also with various other partners." When asked about the possibility of additional cooperation or a surprise announcement related to new products, she briefly replied, "Yeah."
This marks CEO Su's first visit to Korea in the 12 years since she took office in 2014, and she will be staying for two days. She reportedly arrived early in the morning and stayed at the hotel before her official appointments. In the morning, she held a meeting with Naver CEO Choi Sooyoun at Naver's headquarters in Pangyo. Later in the afternoon, she will visit Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus to meet with key semiconductor executives, including Jeon Younghyun, CEO and Head of Device Solutions (DS) Division (Vice Chairman), and Han Jinman, Head of the Foundry Business (President).

During this visit, CEO Su is expected to discuss not only memory cooperation with Samsung Electronics but also the expansion of foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) collaboration. Since last year, Samsung Electronics has been supplying its latest high bandwidth memory (HBM) 3E to AMD's newest AI accelerators, continuing their partnership in the memory sector. There is growing speculation that the collaboration could extend beyond memory to include foundry operations. Last year, Samsung Electronics secured major foundry orders from global big tech companies such as Tesla and Qualcomm. With Samsung Electronics' foundry competitiveness strengthening, there are expectations that AMD may utilize Samsung's most advanced process technology to manufacture its next-generation AI chips.
