Diver Dies in Waters Near Sapjin Industrial Complex in Mokpo
Presumed Trapped Between Structures During Underwater Operation
A diver died in an accident while performing underwater work near the Sapjin Industrial Complex in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police Station, at around 2:51 p.m. on March 17, a report was received that a person had fallen into the water near a shipyard off the coast of the Sapjin Industrial Complex in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province.
The maritime police dispatched to the scene rescued two people from the water. However, one of them, a man in his 50s identified as Mr. A, was found unconscious and received CPR but ultimately passed away.
Mr. A was a diver assigned to lift a floating dock at the time. It is presumed that during the operation, a part of the dock suddenly rose, trapping him between the diving workboat and the structure.
The captain of the diving workboat, Mr. B, a man in his 40s, was also rescued and is reported to be in stable condition.
