Kim Younggon, Gyeongnam Superintendent Candidate: "Masan Marine New Town to Become a Hub for AI Industry and Future Education Innovation"
Vision for the "Gyeongnam Future Education Campus" Proposed
Kim Younggon, a preliminary candidate for Governor of the Gyeongnam Office of Education, has proposed the "Gyeongnam Future Education Campus" as a new educational model to respond to future industrial changes.
On the morning of March 17, at the briefing room of the Gyeongnam Office of Education, Kim held a policy announcement and stated that he would consider establishing the "AI Gyeongnam Future Education Campus" in the Masan Marine New Town area.

View original imageThis initiative, which is the sixth pledge of "Answer, Kim Younggon," aims to connect elementary, middle, and high school education as a single growth pathway and to build an integrated future education ecosystem where education, industry, and the local community work together.
Currently, Kim is carrying out a field project called "Kim Younggon's 1 Night 2 Days," in which he visits and stays one day in each of the 18 cities and counties.
He said, "Rather than staying in meeting rooms, I am confirming the reality of Gyeongnam's education by listening to the voices of parents, teachers, and students," adding, "The most frequent question I hear in the field is, 'What kind of future can our children prepare for in Gyeongnam?'"
As an answer to this question, Kim emphasized the need for an educational transformation connected to future industries.
He argued, "Gyeongnam is the center of Korea's manufacturing industry, where machinery, robotics, defense, and energy sectors are clustered. As these industries are quickly transforming based on artificial intelligence (AI), education must also be restructured to be linked with future industries."
Accordingly, Kim proposed that the future education campus to be established in Masan Marine New Town should be built as an education platform focused on project-based learning, where future industry education such as AI and robotics manufacturing is connected with industrial sites.
He also explained that, instead of lecture-based education, he would consider introducing learning focused on problem-solving and collaboration, and examine the application of innovative educational models such as Minerva Schools and Ecole 42 to elementary, middle, and high school education.
