"Now Unavailable": Resale Prices Hit 10 Million Won as Domestic Sales End Just 3 Months After Launch
Samsung Ends Domestic Sales of 'Galaxy Z Tri-fold'
Only Three Months After Launch Amid High Production Costs
Samsung Electronics has ended sales of its double-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, just over three months after its launch. As the model was initially positioned as a strategic product focused more on showcasing technological prowess rather than profitability, it appears the company has decided not to continue additional production.
Samsung to End TriFold Phone Sales on March 17
According to the information technology (IT) industry on March 17, Samsung Electronics will discontinue domestic sales of the TriFold after selling the last batch received that day. The device has already sold out on Samsung.com and is no longer available for purchase. However, in some overseas markets such as the United States and China, sales are expected to continue until the remaining inventory is depleted.
Until now, Samsung Electronics has intermittently released small quantities of the device through Samsung.com and select offline stores. Each time new stock became available, it sold out in less than five minutes, confirming strong market interest.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is a culmination of the design and engineering capabilities that Samsung Electronics has built since the launch of the Galaxy Fold in 2019. When fully unfolded, it offers a large display of approximately 10 inches (253 mm), while, when folded, it is similar in size to a standard smartphone at 6.5 inches (164.8 mm), maximizing portability. In particular, the device is just 12.9 mm thick when folded, and only 3.9 mm at its thinnest when unfolded, which has been praised as the pinnacle of Samsung's foldable technology.
Although the retail price was as high as 3,590,000 won, domestic units sold out quickly whenever stock was released, resulting in significant scarcity. At one point, units were listed for resale on used-goods platforms at premium prices, with some demanding as much as 10 million won.

Low Profitability Due to High Production Costs
Industry observers cite the high manufacturing cost of the TriFold as a key reason for halting production. The device features a large flexible panel equivalent to three displays, and the recent rise in semiconductor prices has further increased cost pressures. Samsung Electronics is also said to have planned this product more as a 'technology demonstration' to showcase its capabilities, rather than for mass sales.
