Justice Ma Yongju Presides Over Cho Hyunbum’s Supreme Court Appeal
Presiding Judge Kim Inkyum Assigned to Kim Beomsoo’s Appeal Case
With the regular personnel appointments and assignment of duties for judges completed, the courts that will hear cases involving major corporate chairmen have been finalized.
The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Justice Ma Yongju) is currently reviewing the embezzlement and breach of trust appeal case involving Cho Hyunbum, Chairman of Hankook & Company Group. Justice Ma Yongju (23rd Judicial Training Institute class) graduated from Nakdong High School in Busan and the Department of Law at Seoul National University.
Appeal cases involving Park Samkoo, former Chairman of Kumho Asiana Group, for embezzlement and breach of trust, and Jeon Injang, former Chairman of Samyang Foods, for issuing false tax invoices, are also pending before the Supreme Court. Both cases are assigned to Criminal Division 2, but have different presiding justices. The presiding justice for Park Samkoo’s case is Justice Um Sangpil (23rd class), and for Jeon Injang’s case, Justice Oh Kyungmi (25th class). Justice Um graduated from Dongmyeong High School in Jinju and the Department of Law at Seoul National University. Justice Oh graduated from Iri Girls’ High School in Iksan and the Department of Law at Seoul National University.
The retrial of the property division case between Chey Taewon, Chairman of SK Group, and Noh Soyeong, Director of Art Center Nabi, is being heard by the Seoul High Court Domestic Division 1 (Presiding Judge Lee Sangjoo). Presiding Judge Lee Sangjoo (17th class) graduated from Chungbuk High School in Cheongju and the Department of Law at Seoul National University.
The retrial of the hiring corruption case involving Ham Youngjoo, Chairman of Hana Financial Group, is being handled by the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appellate Division 2-3 (Presiding Judge Lee Dongsik). Presiding Judge Lee Dongsik (30th class) graduated from Pohang High School and the Department of Law at Yonsei University.
The first-instance trial for the stock return lawsuit involving Kolmar Group Chairman Yoon Donghan and Vice Chairman Yoon Sanghyun is being heard by the Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 29 (Presiding Judge Ko Seungil). Presiding Judge Ko Seungil (32nd class) graduated from Jungang High School in Seoul and the Department of Economics at Seoul National University. The first-instance criminal case related to the “Hyosung Group Brothers’ Feud,” involving former Hyosung Vice President Cho Hyunmoon, is assigned to Judge Lee Sungyeol (43rd class) of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25-Solo. Judge Lee Sungyeol graduated from Dongam High School in Jeonju and the Department of Law at Seoul National University.
The first-instance divorce trial of Kwon Hyukbin, founder of Smilegate, which reportedly involves property division worth up to 8 trillion won, is being heard by Seoul Family Court Domestic Division 3 (Presiding Judge Jeong Donghyeok). Presiding Judge Jeong Donghyeok (31st class) graduated from Seorabeol High School in Seoul and the Department of Law at Korea University. The first-instance family litigation involving Koo Kwangmo, Chairman of LG Group, is being handled by Judge Lee Eunju (41st class) of Seoul Family Court Domestic Division 6-Solo. Judge Lee Eunju graduated from Isabel High School in Busan and the Department of English Education at Seoul National University.
