Jaechul Ryu, CEO of LG Electronics: "Setting a New Standard for Domestic Robots with 70 Years of Appliance Data and Robotics Expertise"
Meeting with Aegibot in Shanghai, China
"Home Appliances Evolving into Robotic Solutions"
Roadmap for Domestic Robots Unveiled
Emphasis on Long-Term Investment in Robotics Industry
Jaecheol Ryu, CEO of LG Electronics, presented a roadmap for the company's robotics business, stating his commitment to continually advance the vision of a "Zero Labor Home" through robotics. He highlighted LG Electronics' unique core strengths, including ▲ life data, ▲ robotics expertise, and ▲ artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration with major big tech companies.
On March 16, through LinkedIn, CEO Ryu said, "Beyond home appliances, LG Electronics is setting a new standard for household robots." According to industry sources, he visited Shanghai, China, for three days starting March 11 to inspect local subsidiaries and business partners, and visited the Chinese humanoid robotics company AGIBOT.
During this trip, he met with AGIBOT executives to review trends in humanoid robot technology and discuss potential collaboration. He reportedly focused on examining key aspects such as humanoid robot mass production systems, robot data learning farms, and the structure of core component supply chains, including actuators.
CEO Ryu emphasized, "Our roadmap is clear," adding, "We will start with specialized service robots, evolve home appliances into robotic solutions, and ultimately introduce robots that serve as 'conductors of the space,' orchestrating the entire home."

Referring to the concept of 'Moravec's Paradox,' he noted, "From a robotics perspective, the home is the ultimate unstructured environment." He added, "It reminds us that tasks perceived as easy by humans are extremely difficult for robots. Even simple household robot functions require advanced technology and data."
He further explained that LG Electronics has accumulated 'life data' over nearly 70 years through its home appliance and customer service businesses, encompassing knowledge of the home, real-world inconveniences, and services customers need. CEO Ryu added, "Under our concept of 'Affectionate Intelligence,' we focus on technologies that truly matter in everyday life." The company's Affectionate Intelligence refers to the idea that AI provides a more differentiated customer experience by being more considerate and empathetic toward users.
He also stated that the company has built deep robotics expertise through continuous investment over many years. "Through Bear Robotics, which has proven solutions in commercial settings, we have established robust expertise in real service environments, while our affiliate ROBOSTAR has advanced industrial robot technology for smart factories," he said. "At the same time, expanded investments in AGIBOT and Figure AI are further accelerating our capabilities across both hardware and software in robotics."
Additionally, he emphasized ongoing AI collaboration with global big tech companies such as Google and NVIDIA. CEO Ryu noted, "Our AI home appliances have secured powerful on-device AI capabilities, supported by vertically integrated hardware and software optimized for robotics. We enhance contextual understanding through Gemini with Google, and train and test robots in digital twin environments using NVIDIA's Isaac platform."
