Hwaseong Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Jung Myunggeun) held the "2026 Hwaseong Scholarship Dormitory Entrance Ceremony" at Dongtan Dawon Ieumteo on March 14, 2026. The event was organized to celebrate the new beginning of the incoming residents of the Hwaseong Scholarship Dormitory and to introduce the dormitory’s operations and support programs.

View original imageThe ceremony was attended by Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong Special City; Bae Jeongsu, Chairman of the Hwaseong City Council; Lee Junseok, National Assemblyman; Jeon Yonggi, National Assemblyman; members of the Hwaseong City Council; Lim Seonil, CEO of the Hwaseong Talent Development Foundation; as well as the 2026 dormitory residents and their parents, totaling around 350 people.
The event began with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by the entrance oath by new residents, congratulatory speeches from key officials, and the presentation of donations collected by the 2025 dormitory residents. Afterward, a living guide and program orientation were provided to offer incoming students the necessary information for dormitory life.
Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong Special City, stated, “I hope the Hwaseong Scholarship Dormitory becomes a strong foundation for students as they pursue their dreams. We will continue our efforts to operate the dormitory so that students can focus on their studies and gain diverse experiences in a stable environment.”
He added, “Each and every one of you represents the future of Hwaseong. I hope you will nurture bigger dreams based on your valuable experiences at the dormitory and grow into talents who will contribute to the region and society in the future.”

Meanwhile, Hwaseong Special City operates two Hwaseong Scholarship Dormitories (Dongjak Naraegwan and Dobong Naraegwan) to alleviate the financial burden and provide a stable academic environment for local students attending universities in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The city also supports students’ growth and development through a range of programs, including personality and leadership education.

View original imageDongjak Naraegwan, located in Sangdo-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, is a five-story building (one basement floor and four above ground) with a total floor area of 4,348 square meters and opened in 2019. Dobong Naraegwan, located in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, is an eleven-story building (two basement floors and nine above ground) with a total floor area of 5,380 square meters and opened in 2009.
