In Response to Japanese Prime Minister's "Dokdo Is Japanese Territory" Remarks, Foreign Ministry Asserts "Dokdo Is Clearly Korean Territory"
Foreign Ministry: "Dokdo is Korean Territory Historically, Geographically, and Under International Law"
Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's statement suggesting that Dokdo is Japanese territory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea stated on March 13 that "Dokdo is clearly the territory of the Republic of Korea from a historical, geographical, and international law perspective."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also declared, "The government will respond firmly and resolutely to any unjust claims by Japan regarding Dokdo."
The previous day, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi remarked at the House of Representatives Budget Committee that "Japan will make sure to inform the international community of its recognition of Dokdo as Japanese territory." In response to a question regarding the dispatch of ministers to the "Takeshima Day" event (the name Japan uses to refer to Dokdo), she stated, "We will create an environment so that, at some point, cabinet ministers can be dispatched."

During the Liberal Democratic Party leadership election, Prime Minister Takaichi had also expressed her intention to consider sending a cabinet minister, a higher-ranking official than a parliamentary secretary, to the "Takeshima Day" event. However, as in previous years, only a parliamentary secretary, who holds the vice-ministerial rank, was sent to the event held on February 22.
