Cost-Effective Whisky in the 10,000 Won Range a Hit... GS25's "Teacher's" Sells Out First and Second Batches
50,000 Bottles Sold in a Short Time... Third Batch Secured
Whisky Sales in the 10,000 Won Range Up 20.8%
GS25 announced on March 13 that it is introducing a third batch of the Scotch whisky "Teacher's," which is sold exclusively by the convenience store and has been generating buzz as a "cost-effective whisky for highballs," consistently selling out.
GS25, operated by GS Retail, launched the exclusive "Teacher's" Scotch whisky in the 10,000 won price range in December last year and achieved remarkable success. The first batch of 30,000 bottles sold out within just 15 days of launch, followed by a complete sell-out of the second batch of 20,000 bottles. In total, 50,000 bottles were sold in a short period, marking an exceptionally rapid sales pace for the convenience store whisky category.
On March 6, GS25 secured an additional 50,000 bottles of the third batch of Teacher's Scotch whisky and began sales. From March 6 to March 12, the product ranked first in whisky sales volume, maintaining its unwavering popularity. The company aims to sell a total of 100,000 bottles in the shortest possible time.
GS25 attributes this popularity to word-of-mouth on social media and online communities, where Teacher's has been recognized as a cost-effective whisky for highballs. The company explained that, especially amid persistent inflation, the trend of making highballs at home with reasonably priced whisky is spreading rapidly among Millennials & Gen Z, driving a sharp increase in demand.
In fact, GS25 has seen accompanying growth in related product sales. According to GS25’s sales analysis for January and February this year, whisky priced in the 10,000 won range rose by 20.8% compared to the same period last year. Sales of lemons, commonly used to make highballs, increased by 28.3%, ice cups by 14.4%, and sparkling water by 10.0%, indicating that demand for related products is also expanding.
GS25 believes that blended Scotch whisky with a price competitiveness in the 10,000 won range will continue to attract attention as an entry-level product for highball enthusiasts. The company plans to strategically expand its cost-effective spirits category, with a particular focus on continuously sourcing global brands in the 10,000–20,000 won price range to strengthen its portfolio of reasonably priced alcoholic beverages.
