Mayor Jongik Cho of Bucheon Requests GS Power to Lower Heating Costs... "Rate Reduction Under Review for Next Month"
Jongik Cho, Mayor of Bucheon, visited GS Power on the 12th to discuss measures to reduce local district heating rates.
Mayor Cho emphasized the need to stabilize the cost of living for citizens and alleviate the increased financial burden caused by the recent rise in heating costs. He requested the development of heating fee reduction measures that citizens can directly feel. To achieve this, he proposed proactively reflecting the government's announced "District Heating Rate Calculation Standards" in the fee-setting process.
GS Power expressed its agreement with this proposal and stated that it would prepare a rate adjustment plan in accordance with the government guidelines. After internal review by the end of this month, the company plans to inform citizens of the relevant details and consider applying the reduced district heating rates within April.
The Bucheon city government plans to continue closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the reduction in heating costs will provide tangible relief for citizens' living expenses.

This project is a large-scale initiative worth 1 trillion won, aiming to replace aging power generation facilities with eco-friendly and high-efficiency equipment in order to establish a stable foundation for heat and electricity supply.
Mayor Cho asked the project operator to thoroughly strengthen on-site safety management, especially during seasons vulnerable to safety risks such as the thawing period and rainy season. He also requested that all phases of the construction minimize inconvenience to the surrounding living environment, including noise, environmental impact, and traffic.
In particular, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing the use of equipment and materials supplied by local businesses during the construction process, as well as actively hiring local workers to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs.
Mayor Cho stated, "I visited the site to address key livelihood issues such as reducing heating costs, revitalizing the local economy, and strengthening the mid- to long-term energy foundation through the 1 trillion won modernization project. I will continue to closely inspect the sites and engage in the necessary discussions to improve rate systems that citizens can feel and to establish a safe energy infrastructure."
