"Dry Air Even After Grilling Pork Belly"…An 8-Year Solo Dweller's Satisfied Review of Dyson's Hand-Sized Purifier [Unboxing]
Half the Price and Size of Previous Models
Excellent as a Secondary Air Purifier for Bedrooms and Kids' Rooms
No Humidifier or Fan Function...Focused Solely on Air Purification
Eight years into living alone. I still have to muster a lot of determination to cook. What I fear more than the possibility of my food turning out tasteless is the lingering smell that won't go away, even after leaving the windows open for hours. But it's not possible to rely on frozen meals or food delivery forever.
Because studio apartments don't have separate kitchen, bedroom, and living room spaces, odors tend to linger everywhere in the home. If I cook fish or pork belly, the smell will inevitably cling not only to my blankets and curtains but even to towels hung out to dry. With a window only on one side, it's hard to ventilate properly. It's not uncommon to see neighbors leaving their front doors wide open to air out their homes. Now, there's an air purifier designed to help those who want to cook diligently, even when living alone.
"Fresh Air for Solo Living"…Dyson's First Compact Air Purifier

View original imageDyson has launched the "Hushjet Compact Air Purifier" in Korea, targeting single-person households. Compared to previous models, the size has been reduced by about half, making it suitable as a secondary air purifier for studio apartments or individual rooms. Its compactness makes it easy to use in small kitchens and bedrooms, appealing to single-person households and those pursuing a minimalist lifestyle.
This also reflects the trend across the home appliance industry for compact appliances that maximize space efficiency, regardless of product category. I, a single-person household, tested Dyson's first compact air purifier for two weeks.
Compact Size, Fits Anywhere…Outstanding Space Efficiency

View original imageThe first impression was that it looked impeccably neat. Even those who avoided air purifiers because bulky appliances ruin their interiors will likely be drawn to its refined design.
The product measures just 23cm in width and 47cm in height. About the width of an adult male's hand and knee-high, it's overall quite compact. Compared to existing large models, it's about one-third the size. It doesn't take up much space, so I could place it next to the bed or in the kitchen without any trouble, even in confined spaces.
It weighs 3.15kg, making it light enough for an adult to carry easily. It was convenient to move it around the house as needed. This could be a great choice for those who have hesitated to buy an air purifier because larger ones seem too cumbersome.
There are two color options. The Black·Teal version features a teal top and black bottom, while the White·Silver version has a silver top and white bottom.
Smart "Auto Mode"…Detects Even Ultrafine Dust

View original imageNo matter how good it looks, it's useless if it doesn't perform well. The Hushjet Compact Air Purifier may be small, but it's smart. The most useful feature was the "Auto Mode." Without any special input, it automatically adjusted operation according to air quality. Since my home is located on a busy seven-lane road, on days I left the window open all day, it operated at maximum airflow until the indoor air quality improved.
Pressing the button once more in Auto Mode activates Sleep Mode, indicated by a crescent moon icon. In Sleep Mode, the airflow drops to level 4, and the LCD screen dims to avoid disturbing sleep.
You can manually adjust airflow among strong, medium, and weak levels using the device's buttons. Through the MyDyson app, you can fine-tune it from level 1 to 10.
The LCD screen displays indoor air quality data measured over the last 12 seconds. You can check not only fine particles (PM10) such as dust and mold spores, but also ultrafine particles (PM2.5) like smoke and bacteria.
Inspired by noise reduction devices of aircraft jet engines, a star-shaped nozzle structure was applied to reduce operational noise. Photo by Bokyung Jang
View original imageNoise generated when the air purifier is running is also an important factor. Dyson applied a star-shaped nozzle structure inspired by the "Hush Kit" noise reduction device used in aircraft jet engines, which helps reduce operational noise. In Sleep Mode, where the airflow is reduced to level 4, it achieves a very low noise level of 19dB. It was so quiet that I forgot the purifier was running, allowing for undisturbed sleep. From level 5 and above, some noise becomes noticeable, and at the highest level 10, both the wind and noise intensify.
"Siri, Switch to Sleep Mode"…Smart Remote Control
By using the app "MyDyson," you can manage indoor air quality even when you are outside the house. The photo shows the timer set to 1 hour in "Auto Mode." You can also intuitively check when it is time to replace the filter. Photo by Bogyung Jang
View original imageThere is no separate remote control; everything can be easily operated via the app. Once I installed the MyDyson app, it automatically detected the nearby air purifier and registered the product effortlessly.
Through the app, you can remotely control the power, airflow, auto mode, and sleep mode. There's no need to worry even if you leave home with the purifier on, as you can check the indoor air quality in real time from outside. You can also set a timer to stop operation, with options ranging from 15 minutes up to a maximum of 9 hours, making it convenient to set before going to bed.
On my iPhone, I was able to set certain modes as shortcuts and control them with my voice. It is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

View original imageFilter maintenance is simple as well. When it's time to replace the filter, notifications appear on both the MyDyson app and the LCD screen. The 360˚ electrostatic dust collector and formaldehyde filter, which primarily filters dust, can be used for up to 5 years. According to Dyson, this filter removes 99.97% of ultrafine particles as small as 0.3 microns, including allergens and mold spores.
Inside the electrostatic filter is an activated carbon filter that removes pet odors as well as various smells and gases generated during cooking. The activated carbon filter can be used for up to one year.
No Humidifier or Fan Features, but Affordable Price
The price is 499,000 won. Considering that Dyson's existing air purifiers are priced between 900,000 and 1,200,000 won, this is about half the price. The energy efficiency rating is Grade 2, making it the most energy-efficient air purifier Dyson has released so far.

Given the price and size, it is reasonable, but it's somewhat disappointing that it lacks additional features like humidification or a fan. Compared to recent Dyson air purifiers that offer a variety of functions, this model is relatively simple in terms of features.
