The event was attended by Cho Hyun-sang, Vice Chairman of HS Hyosung, Han Gapsoo, Director of the Carbon-Based Medical Device Development Support Center at Chonbuk National University Hospital, and Ko Myunghwan, Head of Operations.
Cho Hyun-sang, Vice Chairman of HS Hyosung, stated, "Park's motto, 'My legs have no limits,' closely resembles the philosophy of HS Hyosung, which is to create value by challenging the impossible. We hope that the carbon fiber developed by HS Hyosung will support Park's journey and help him shine for Korea on the international stage."
Park lost his left leg in a traffic accident in 2022, but in just three years, he was selected as a member of the national para-cycling team. He is currently training with the goal of winning a gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games.
Traditional metal prosthetic legs have been problematic for cyclists due to their weight, causing physical strain during long rides. To address this, HS Hyosung Advanced Materials supported the production of a custom-made prosthetic using carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a material that weighs only a quarter of steel but is 10 times stronger and seven times more elastic.
This prosthetic leg was created using carbon fiber from HS Hyosung Advanced Materials, integrating prepreg resin technology from the Composite Materials Research Team and molding technology from the Carbon-Based Medical Device Development Support Center at Chonbuk National University Hospital. The design was customized to Park's body structure, and it is expected to help improve his performance.
Park expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am thankful to receive a one-of-a-kind prosthetic leg that goes beyond simple equipment support, taking into account my body structure and even my racing style. With the 'wings of advanced technology' added to my dreams, I will strive to achieve great results at this year's Asian Games."
