Choi Dongmin, preliminary candidate for Dongdaemun District Mayor from the Democratic Party, will officially kick off his campaign by opening his election office near Jegidong Station on March 14. The office opening ceremony will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the 10th floor of the Bullojangsaeng Tower (117 Wangsan-ro), near Exit 2 of Jegidong Station.

View original imageChoi completed his registration as a preliminary candidate on February 20, and on February 25, he held an official press conference announcing his candidacy under the slogan "Leading Dongdaemun, Achieving Mayor."
Choi, a policy expert who previously served as an administrative officer at the Presidential Office, and worked for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, explained his motivation for running: "Now that Dongdaemun faces the massive waves of ultra-low birth rates, an aging population, the climate crisis, and the AI transformation, we can no longer remain stagnant."
He stressed, "I will be a mayor who brings in the budget and delivers projects that meet the needs of residents," adding, "I will demonstrate achievements in revitalizing the Dongdaemun economy, connecting the city divided by the railroad, creating quality jobs, building an education-focused city, and managing the district based on big data."

Choi is a former president of the student council at the University of Seoul and has held positions such as director at the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, policy advisor to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, administrative officer at the Presidential Office, and deputy spokesperson for Lee Jaemyung’s presidential campaign.
