Hakseong Gallery is a cultural and artistic hub facility established as part of the Hakseong-dong urban regeneration project. The building has two floors above ground and a total floor area of 1,277 square meters. The first floor houses the main exhibition hall, a special exhibition room, and an art cafe, while the second floor is equipped with a program room, a community lounge for residents, and workshops.
This space is expected to serve as a cultural and artistic venue in the original downtown, where local artists and citizens can enjoy creative activities and cultural programs together.
The area around Hakseong-dong, where Hakseong Gallery is located, experienced commercial decline following the relocation of public offices and Wonju Station. The region's image was also severely damaged due to aging infrastructure and the existence of a red-light district.
In response, Wonju City has promoted improvements to the living environment and the restoration of local vitality through the urban regeneration project. This includes clearing the red-light district and developing cultural parks and community facilities.
In particular, Hakseong Gallery is expected to function as a key cultural hub in the original downtown, where local residents and visitors can come together through culture and the arts, bringing new energy to the previously stagnant area.
